But at school, Grayson grasps at shadows, determined to fly under the radar. This moving, beautifully written novel about identity, self-esteem, and friendship shines with the strength of a young person's spirit and the power of acceptance. The sign of a good character is when you wrestle with your feelings about them. Homosexuality is suspected and brought up as taunt and accusation; statutory rape is hinted at but barely addressed.
Not to be missed by fans of Raina Telgemeier's Drama and Tim Federle's Better Nate Than Ever! Also a section at the end explain trans persons with links and resources would have been nice. But at school, Grayson grasps at shadows, determined to fly under the radar. Polansky does a good job of balancing her cast.
Questions? - This title has less obvious and didactic intent than other novels featuring transgender protagonists.
